Change Isn't Always for the Best November 21, 2008 I have subscribed to "Taste of Home" since shortly after its debut. I loved the magazine and looked forward to every issue. However, shortly after I renewed my last subscription to what was promoted as being an advertising-free publication, advertisements started appearing in the issues. Also, the look and feel changed. It used to have a "homey" look, down-to-earth recipes, and included features about the contributers. It was also formerly printed on durable high quality glossy paper, which was nice since many readers kept these magazines for future reference.
Now the magazine has a generic look, and the paper is thin and flimsy like what is used in "Readers Digest." Upon investigating what happened to my beloved magazine, I discovered that Readers Digest purchased the magazine around the time these changes began. I have written to the new publisher twice to complain that I was promised a magazine without advertising at the time I purchased my subscription, and to request they consider returning the magazine to its former quality. Neither time have I received any reply whatsoever from the publisher. In the interim my subscription has lapsed. It is very sad to me that the formula that made "TOH" so popular that it was the top selling cooking magazine has been discarded - leaving behind a cheapened shadow of what it once was. As a result I no longer subscribe to it. I am looking for a quality cooking magazine to replace "TOH." I subscribe to "Cooks" and I am considering their sister publication "Cook's Country." If Amazon readers have other good recommendations I would be very grateful.
One of the best July 29, 2008 I truly love Taste of Home! With so many wonderful recipes covering a wide variety of foods, there are always many ideas to help getting my creative-cooking juices flowing.
Awful Updates January 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Taste of Home used to be a great magazine, with bright pictures, appatizing pictures, and a down-home cozy feel. However, I recently began subscribing to them and found out that they had completely changed the format of the entire magazine. Something about the whole magazine is depressing now. They no longer have pictures of the people who sent in recipes, and if they do they are very tiny. It looks like they have tried to update it and make it more modern looking in order to appeal to younger readers, but it has the opposite effect. Their appeal was that they weren't one of those kinds of magazines, they were unique. Now, Taste of Home is pretty much a copy of every other cooking magazine out there. It makes no sense to change a formula that was perfect. I plan to unsubscribe and read my old issues instead.
My Favorite Cooking Magazine September 9, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As a subscriber to many cooking magazines, I would choose Taste of Home over all of them. The recipes are very easy to prepare. The layout is simple which I love and the magazine is not bombarded with ads with a recipe in the corner as other cooking magazines are. It is focused on down home recipes that give you that traditional, family feel.
Great cooking magazine! August 15, 2007 This is great magazine for anyone who loves to cook. There are dozens of super recipes in each magazine. I will renew my subscription over and over!
