Helpful thoughts on attitudes in general, and then some... March 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I like the book just for its thoughts on attitudes in general...I've also used the self-esteem ideas to help my young daughter, and found them very beneficial.
Wish I'd Known Then What This Book Has Taught Me NOW! January 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Once, decades ago I sought hypnosis to help unearth an issue in my life that was clearly blocking my forward progress. The session moved mountains. It never occurred to me, however, that self-hypnosis was even possible or that it could be used on a regular basis to create the life I would like to live. What a revelation this book has been. With engaging conversational writing and accessible explanations for the methods and means of hypnosis, this book is filled with easy to use hypnosis techniques that are already changing my life. I am buying this book for my two 20-something kids so they will know at an early age what I've waited 50 years to learn!
Hypnosis and more May 5, 2005 12 out of 17 found this review helpful
I was hoping to read a book on hypnosis when I checked this book from the library. I never knew what hypnosis is all about - legitimate way of accessing subconscious, or hocus pokus. So, I set out on learning more about it by exploring the topic. This particular book was unique in a way that it explains what the hypnosis is and what state a person is in when hypnotized. What was a pleasant surprise was a fact that many shortcomings we all have: fear, lack of self confidence, desire to loose weight and many other topics can actually be conquered by using hypnisis and meditation methods as described in the book. In short, book will explain to you psychological reasons for certain experiences we all have and the alternative ways of correcting the undesired qualities, or enhancing the qualities we wish to enhance. You will learn in this book how to attract good things in one's life such as: health and happiness, - or how to love oneself first, so that you can love the people around you. Well written. Interesting read for open minded.
Wow! August 30, 2003 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
I was concerned that this might be another boring book about self hypnosis but it was nothing of the kind. This book is new and fresh. The authors start off by explaining just what hypnosis is. (I was a bit surprised by how common trance is in every day life!)Then they go through many of the common ways that self hypnosis can help people. Memory enhancement, learning, smoking, weight loss, self esteem, pain control. It was all here. This book is much better than most of the stuff you pick up off the shelves that tell you to sit back and relax and veg out for a half hour. I thought the approach to hypnosis was innovative and exciting. Five stars plus!
Wow! What a surprise for a hypnosis book! May 15, 2003 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I thought self hypnosis was all about, "sit down, relax, take a deep breath and space out." I was wrong. This book is a life changer! It is so practical. The authors start out explaining just what hypnosis is and how it works. They sort of take the mystery and magic out of it...like seeing how a magic trick works, and then show you how to use your mind as a theater or TV screen to change all the pictures in your mind. I really didn't expect to learn how to control pain. I bought the book because Hogan cowrote it and I was absolutely 100% happy with what I'm learning about self confidence, weight control and reducing pain. I probably will never use the section on have a child with hypnosis. Hee hee. This is a really remarkable book about something everyone should use!
