Amazon.com Review Instant gratification junkies seeking self-awareness are bound to find the title of Ariel and Shya Kane's book extremely attractive. And seductive it is: who wouldn't like to discover enlightenment in a moment? The key, explain the Kanes, is getting to the moment: being fully present in the here and now without trying to manipulate or change what you see. According to the Kanes, "all problems are a projection towards the future of possible realities based on the past." Consequently, inhibitors to living life directly include the inability to let go of one's history--to forgive people and events from the past--as well as resistance to the circumstances of one's life, and repetitive, mechanical thoughts and behaviors. The essence of transformation is "a non-judgmental witnessing, viewing, or seeing of yourself and how you interact with your life," which stands in direct opposition to therapy's approach of working on one's history to bring about change. Here, awareness of a prejudice or pattern of behavior is--simply and immediately--enough to transform it. Principles of awareness, self-realization, and enlightenment, of course, are nothing new, and the Kanes are careful to point this out. Some readers may wonder, then, why the Kanes refer to themselves as pioneers of a "revolutionary new technology," and whether Instantaneous Transformation(R) really requires a trademark. Nevertheless, Working on Yourself Doesn't Work is warm, anecdotal, and conversationally written, and includes general suggestions and pointers for the reader rather than rules to memorize. All in all, it is a gentle and potentially powerful invitation to enter a new and liberating state of mind. --Svenja Soldovieri

Ariel & Shya Kane's 3 simple ideas have truly transformed my life. What a relief! I have found satisfaction in who I am. My life is excellent. It's amazing how easy the lifestyle of living in the moment truly is. I have found well-being by reading this book. If you're ready to see just how easy enlightenment really is, I highly suggest reading "Working On Yourself Doesn't Work, 3 Simple Ideas That Will Instantaneously Transform Your Life". Next you should check out Being Here: Modern Day Tales of Enlightenment. This is another book by the Kanes that will transport your life into the moment. Their #1 internet radio show called "Being Here" on The 7th Wave Network channel on Voice America.com is another fun avenue to discover the magic of the moment. Check it out!
practical magic November 6, 2008 25 out of 25 found this review helpful
I love this book, inspiring and beautiful, it's also easy and practical to use in my day to day life. Before I read this book and started working with the Kanes I spend most of my time worrying about the future, thinking about how I did things wrong and trying to hold things together. Working on Yourself Doesn't Work showed me a complete new possibility. With the help of the Kanes' three simple ideas, their amazing clarity, humor and empathy the loud chatter in my head calmed down. Worries, fear and guilt dissolved and life became peaceful and fulfilling. I never thought it would be an alternitve, but a magical life truly is a possibility, it lives in the moment, beautiful and simple. If you're looking for more magic in your life or simply feel there must be more...read this book!

This book is beautiful, insightful and amazing. So simple, so practical. It really helped me to stop judging and criticizing myself and start living the life I want to live. With their three principles of Instantaneous Transformation Ariel & Shya Kane gently and brilliantly took me through the process from living the painful life I used to live, to living a life full of enthusiasm and joy. Peace of Mind February 9, 2008 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
I remember when I first read this book I was struck by how peaceful it made me feel. I can't access that peace all the time and so I'm learning to be ok with that. The book may appear quite simple compared to the intensive work that others might give you. I'm a huge fan of Martha Beck, Byron Katie and Eckhart Tolle--but what the Kanes have created here is a way to access your life as the "work" for you to do. Just live it and keep in mind the principles of how life unfolds: what you resist persists (watch and you'll see how it appears in your life), no two things can occupy the same place at the same time (so why waste a moment with complaint?), and anything you allow to be exactly as it is will complete itself (try it, the moment can't last forever so let it be what it wants to be--or else it persists).
I'm grateful for having found this book and the Kanes. Truly magical.
